With just one established star on the team in Davante Adams and far more players than the team can carry into the regular season, there will definitely be some painful roster cuts coming at the end of August.Obviously, it’s far too early to know where the bubble battle stands at this point. The team has only practiced in full pads a few times, and preseason games have not yet begun. Still, the next few weeks will determine what group of five, six, or seven players go into the regular season having jobs and if any others find a spot on the practice squad.Adams is a stud; that much is certain. It certainly looks like the Packers have established a hierarchy at the numbers two, three, and four spots as well. But behind that group? It’s a free-for-all, with every player bringing different strengths and skills to the competition.Don’t forget about a disappointment from last year’s rookie class, either, as a certain fourth-round pick has been making some noise this week. Still, all bets are off until the games begin.Packers camp notes: Aaron Rodgers impressed with receiver competition early | Packers WireAfter the Packers' big four guys in Adams, Allison, MVS, and EQ, Rodgers called out Allen Lazard https://www.thepackersfanshop.com/Davon-House-Jersey , Jake Kumerow, and others for having nice starts to camp. As Adams said earlier this week, this is shaping up to be one of the toughest cut-downs at receiver in recent memory.Marquez Valdes-Scantling determined to become an ‘all-around receiver’ | Packers.comHowever, MVS is not on the bubble; if anything, he looks like the best bet to be the team's WR2. His workouts with Randy Moss in the offseason, his study habits with the playbook, and of course his size and speed have given him a leg up on the competition at this point.J’Mon Moore putting himself back in the thick of wide-open wide receiver competition | Packersnews.comForget about Moore at your own peril. Before camp, APC left him off our roster prediction, but he certainly has the talent to make the team. He has seemingly put together a few nice practices recently, and the real test will come next week when preseason games begin.Pass Interference Challenge Passes First Test in Hall of Fame Game | SI.comBroncos head coach Vic Fangio jokingly promised to make the first challenge of a pass interference call in NFL history on Thursday, and he delivered. Perhaps unsurprisingly, the play was not overturned and live moved on.Gordon's agent requests Chargers trade star RB | ESPNIf Gordon were willing to play out his contract, I'd call the Chargers and offer a fifth-round pick for him. But to acquire him and give him a new contract, when he has already reportedly turned down the Chargers' offer of $10 million per year? No thanks. Finally, we have fans at a Baltimore Orioles game doing something that’s much more fun than watching the Orioles: playing with their dog. But for Pete’s sake, just give that pupper his hot dog already! The links between former Green Bay Packers head coach Mike McCarthy and the Cleveland Browns organization have made sense ever since the Packers fired McCarthy after their week 13 loss. Now reports indicate that the Browns are indeed making a serious effort to bring McCarthy in, at the very least to interview for their vacant head coaching position. There are plenty of reasons to make a logical connection between the two parties. John Dorsey Bryan Bulaga Jersey , a former Packers executive, is the Browns’ general manager. Eliot Wolf, another former Packers executive, is his right-hand man. Alonzo Highsmith, yet another former Packers personnel man, holds a prominent role in Cleveland’s scouting department.Adding in a talented young quarterback in Baker Mayfield and it’s easy to see why McCarthy would be interested in the job. Now we have the first firm report that the Browns have contacted McCarthy about the possibility of coaching the team in 2019, as reported by the Toronto Sun’s John Kryk.Cleveland is interviewing a wide list of individuals, and likely will submit requests to speak with some of the same people that the Packers hope to interview to replace McCarthy. One name that both teams have reportedly asked to interview is Dan Campbell, the New Orleans Saints tight ends coach. Expect Josh McDaniels to receive a request from the Browns as well.Still, at least one individual thinks the McCarthy-to-the-Browns possibility is already a done deal:Bob McManaman is a beat writer for the Arizona Cardinals, who reportedly made overtures to McCarthy recently. The Cardinals offered him complete personnel control, as reported by CBS Sports’ Jason La Canfora on Sunday, but McCarthy reportedly turned that offer down. La Canfora further reported that McCarthy plans to sit out 2019, though that could change if given the right opportunity. It’s too early to trust reporting about a deal being in place between McCarthy and the Browns, but all the connections make sense, and Dorsey has apparently made the necessary first move to make it happen.
