Because of injuries to safeties, Thomas was signed to the active roster in mid-December 2017 and appeared in three games for the Broncos as a rookie. He got playing time as the third safety in the games 14 and 15, then played the entirety of game 16 (when Broncos fielded mostly a backup team against the Chiefs). His 71 defensive snaps in 2017 were enough experience to help Thomas make the 53-man roster out of training camp in 2018 as one of the five safeties. While appearing in 12 games (missed four due to injury last season), Thomas was mainly used on special teams as he only saw 43 defensive snaps in 2018 (23 of those vs CLE). Thomas’ training camp has mostly been quiet so far, but he did do this:The Bad Thomas is in a very crowded group of safeties and is ostensibly fighting with four other guys for the fourth or maybe fifth safety spot, depending on how many Broncos keep.
