The Redskins have a big need at QB this year with Alex Smith expected to miss this season and possibly longer. They reportedly sniffed around the Joe Flacco trade
Jonathan Allen Jersey , but the cost would be too high with Smith's $20+ million still on the books. They could also look to free agency and get a cheaper veteran option to compete with Colt McCoy.The alternative to adding another veteran is either drafting a QB this year, or trading for a young QB who will be available. Kyler Murray is the most interesting player in the draft this year, and could set some big changes in motion for teams picking early. The Arizona Cardinals have the #1 overall pick and just hired Kliff Kingsbury, who is a big Murray fan. The speculation has been growing that he wants to draft Murray with the first pick. There is one small problem with that scenario, Arizona just traded up to #10 last year to get QB Josh Rosen. The Cardinals gave up their 3rd and 5th round picks to move up 5 spots. Rosen started 13 games last year. He was 217 for 393(55.2%) for 2278 yards and 11 TDs with 14 INTs. He also fumbled 10 times, turning it over 5 times. Rosen was on a very bad Cardinals team, but thos numbers are not great.Tony Pauline reports that the Redskins are very interested in trading for Josh Rosen, and aren't being discreet about it at the Combine. There has already been speculation about what it would cost to get Rosen, ranging from this year's 1st to a 2nd and a 2020 pick. The Redskins would have 3 more years on his contract along with the 5th year option. Is he worth trading for? As the Alex Smith saga continues to play out before our eyes
Charles Mann Jersey , all thoughts are surrounding what the Redskins should do at quarterback both for the present and future of the franchise. Many feel a new head coach, if one is actually selected, would like to have a say for the franchise’s next signal caller. If Jay Gruden returns for another season at the helm, some wonder if Colt McCoy will be the guy for the immediate future, until either Alex Smith returns, or a new rookie is broken in.Regardless of who the coach is, the Skins are going to have to plan for the future at the most important position on the field.Enter Teddy Bridgewater. The former first round pick of the Minnesota Vikings in the 2014 NFL Draft, Bridgewater is currently serving as a backup to Drew Brees in New Orleans. At just 26 years old, Teddy has plenty of good years left in him
Colt McCoy Jersey , and if he can become the passing threat he was developing into before the horrific knee injury, some lucky team may just find its pot of gold at the end of the Rainbow. The Saints did trade a third round pick to the Jets in exchange for Bridgewater and a sixth round pick this past August, and the thought process may be that he can become the eventual replacement for Drew Brees after the 2019 season. However, if a team is willing to offer Teddy a contract to be a starter, he’d be crazy not to take advantage in free agency. If the Redskins get bad news regarding Alex Smith, and have little faith in Colt McCoy, Bridgewater could be a viable option on a short-term prove-it contract. If he indeed does prove it, the Skins could look to extend him well into his 30’s.
