The rumors connecting the Broncos to quarterback prospect have been piling up recently and we have yet another to add to that list. This one coming from someone connected to Missouri where Lock played his college ball and a longtime NFL veteran who played for newly hired Broncos Head Coach
http://www.thebroncosfootballauthentic.com/phillip-lindsay-jersey-authentic , Vic Fangio. According to Brian Neuner, the Denver Broncos and Head Coach Vic Fangio are doing their homework on quarterback, Drew Lock, and have talked to NFL veteran Justin Smith about Lock. Heuner who I am assuming is getting this information from Justin Smith, says that Fangio reached out to Smith about Lock and asked how he felt about the former Missouri quarterback. Smith, who is also a Missouri grad and played for Fangio in San Francisco apparently told him that he believes Lock is the best quarterback in the draft. Obviously, there is some likely bias here, but Fangio apparently trusts Smith’s opinion enough to ask. As I said, Smith who played 14 seasons in the NFL and totaled 880 tackles, 87 sacks, and 17 forced fumbles during his career finished out his career playing for Fangio. From the beginning of the 2011 season to the end of the 2014 season
Youth Derek Wolfe Jersey , Fangio served as the San Francisco 49ers Defensive Coordinator, so the two obviously built a relationship during that time. I know the credibility here isn’t what you want, but It makes sense for it to happen. Smith obviously is still following Missouri football and it makes sense that Fangio would reach out to one of his former players about the quarterback the Broncos are interested in and one Smith knows a bit about. As I said earlier in the article, the Broncos interest in Lock has been well documented and they do desperately need a young quarterback to develop and hopefully be their future at the position. I think as of right now, it is safe to pencil in Lock as the Broncos first-round pick in the 2019 NFL Draft. Would 10(or earlier) be too early to select Lock? Well, according to Benjamin Allbright, NFL people at the Senior Bowl believe Lock will go in the top 10 of the 2019 NFL Draft. Allbright was also one of(if not the first) to begin the Lock to Denver conversation as well. The Broncos have been fairly obvious in the past from their past three Head Coaches and their first-round picks(Bolles and Lynch) so all this evidence stacking up is noteworthy. I know some will throw the “smokescreen” card around but, I think their interest in Lock is genuine. I am liking what I saw from Lock this week at the Senior Bowl and he possesses all the “uncoachable” traits scouts, coaches, and GM’s look for in a prospect. He needs some refining obviously, but that is why the Broncos hired Rich Scangarello to be their Offensive Coordinator/Quarterback developer. A move/hiring that screamed “we are drafting Drew Lock” to me personally. It is rumor season and I know some of you will hate this
Youth Brandon Marshall Jersey , but the evidence is piling up between the Broncos and Missouri quarterback prospect, Drew Lock. Since, I just wrote up 3rd and long as well. I’m about typed-out for the day, so there is gong to be very little prose in this piece. I’ll post the data, you can make of it what you will. Tables first for those who prefer that kind of view.OffensiveDefensiveNow for the pretty pictures :-)Offensive DataConnor McGovern, Matt Paradis, Garett Bolles and Ronald Leary have played every offensive for us so far this year. Turner has played quite well when he has been called upon. Turner has currently played 30% of the offensive snaps this year. PFF has him ranked as the 34th best OT in the game and he has only allowed one sack according the data from the Washington Post. Losing Jake Butt for the year hurts because Jeff Heuerman proved last game that he is not a quality NFL TE. There is no way he should be on the field for close to 90% of the offensive snaps in any game (just my opinion). He got his lunch money stolen on the interception last game. It’s interesting to see the balance here particularly if you factor out the 3rd game where Lindsay got ejected. I like the trend line for Andy Janovich and I hope that continues. Nothing really of note here other than to show we run 4WR sets about one out of every five plays. Defensive DataIt looks like we are trying to keep Wolfe fresh by getting Gotsis and Harris more PT.Todd Davis is now playing more than Brandon Marshall (due partly to injury). Josey Jewell appears to be an interchangeable part now at ILB, which is a good thing. The symmetry here shows that Shane Ray and Shaquil Barrett and the Backups for Von Miller and Bradley Chubb. I like that we are getting Von some rest, but I don’t like that there have been critical late game defensive snaps where Von is on the sideline instead of in the game. That can’t be allowed to happen. I thought the whole point of getting him rest early in the game was so that he could be fresh in the 4th quarter when he really needs to shine. Justin Simmons has yet to miss a defensive snap for us this year. It will be interesting to see if Isaac Yiadom has learned enough at any point during his rookie season to start getting some rotational snaps in place of Tramaine Brock or Adam Jones (assuming that they both stay healthy or return to health). So did any of this surprise you? For those who want to see the special teams snaps you can view the data here.
