CHICAGO -- Justin Ruggianos two-out, two-run double broke a tie in the seventh inning, leading the Chicago Cubs to a 5-3 victory over the Washington Nationals on Thursday night. Starlin Castro had two RBIs and Anthony Rizzo went 3 for 4 with two doubles and a run scored. The Cubs had dropped four of five games before the win. Denard Span went 2 for 4 with two doubles and two RBIs for the Nationals. Neither starter was involved in the decision. The Cubs Travis Wood gave up three runs on seven hits in 6 2/3 innings and was hurt most by five walks. Washingtons Doug Fister also allowed three runs on seven hits. Cubs reliever Neil Ramirez (1-1) got the win and Hector Rondon pitched a perfect ninth for his ninth save. Cubs centre fielder Junior Lake had to leave in the second inning after crashing into a door in the outside wall at Wrigley Field chasing a drive by Ryan Zimmerman. The wall is not covered with ivy. The Cubs said Lake has shown no signs of a concussion and has some bruises, including one on his head. The Cubs opened the scoring with three runs in the fourth by bunching hits. Ruggianos lead-off grounder surprisingly was scored a hit when third baseman Anthony Rendon threw well wide of first. Rizzo followed with a double. Castro, who took over the team lead in RBIs on Wednesday, added to his total with a two-run single. One out later, Welington Castillo singled to drive in Castro. Washington finally pushed across a run in the sixth. Span led off with a double and Rendon immediately drove him in with a single. It appeared the lead was about to shrink further after Wood walked Jayson Werth. But Wood got Adam LaRoche to ground into a double play. Following another walk, he struck out Ian Desmond to end the inning. Wood wouldnt be so fortunate in the seventh. He started the inning with back-to-back walks and, following a sacrifice bunt, two runs scored on a double by Span to tie the score at 3. The Cubs staged their rally in the bottom of the inning and took the 5-3 lead on Ruggianos double off reliever Craig Stammen (0-3). The blog, written by columnist Anthony Vasquez-Peddie (@AVPreports), took aim at selective tweets from Scrivens wifes Twitter account regarding her feelings about the weather in Los Angeles. "The big loser in Wednesdays trade that sent goalie Ben Scrivens from the Los Angeles Kings to the Edmonton Oilers may be Mrs. Scrivens," Vasquez-Peddie wrote. "Ben, who was born in Spruce Grove, is used to crippling Alberta winters. "Based on her Twitter feed, Jenny Scrivens, a native Californian, clearly is not. Jenny couldnt have been happier after her husband was traded to the Kings last off-season after spending three years in Toronto with the Maple Leafs. Now that shes headed back to the Great White North, however, she has to deal with awful things like fall, snow and ice." Vasquez-Peddie pointed out a series of tweets from Jenny Scrivenss Twitter feed first published by The Sporting News. "Exactly!," she tweeted just after the Leafs-Kings trade. "I paid my dues with 3 years in Toronto and 4 in New York. And I will never complain about weather again. Ever." Scrivens, who was acquired in a deal from the Los Angeles Kings on Wednesday, was quick to defend his wife with his own response on social media.dddddddddddd "Hey @AVPreports, classy move writing a slam story by cherry-picking tweets my wife sent to make it seem like she doesnt like Edmonton," he wrote. "Youre gutless. And to those of you who commented on the article or tweeted at her about how shes lazy (even though shes not in Edmonton now because she has a fulltime job in LA she cant just up and leave) or that she married rich (even though we got married while I was playing in the AHL) or that shes dumb (shes an Ivy League and graduate school grad), just know Im embarrassed that you are an Edmontonian. "Way to make my family feel welcome." Vasquez-Peddie responded to Ben Scrivenss tweets later in the evening, explaining it was just a tongue-in-cheek feature. "A few things first," he wrote. "1) The blog was not an attack on Jenny Scrivens. She wrote tweets about how happy she was in L.A., in particular ... How much she enjoyed the weather as compared to Toronto. "Now that her husband is moving to Edmonton, shell be forced to experience...Bad weather again. Complaining about the weather is something everybody does. The way she did in the first tweet shown in the blog...Was something many people poked fun at. Sort of an Uh oh, here we go again moment. The idea of the blog was based on that. Is it gossipy clickbait? Absolutely, and thats how it was sold. We have plenty of beat writers for analysis, I wanted to provide levity." cheap falcons jerseys cheap ravens jerseys cheap bills jerseys cheap bears jerseys cheap bengals jerseys cheap cowboys jerseys cheap lions jerseys cheap texans jerseys cheap colts jerseys cheap jaguars jerseys cheap chiefs jerseys cheap rams jerseys cheap dolphins jerseys cheap vikings jerseys cheap saints jerseys cheap giants jerseys cheap jets jerseys cheap eagles jerseys cheap steelers jerseys cheap 49ers jerseys ' ' '
