(STATS) -- Theres no doubt November is calling because it takes defense to win a championship. Casey Cizikas Jersey .And there was plenty of it shining with STATS FCS Top 25 teams on Saturday. The highlights:- No. 2 Jacksonville State returned a program-record three interceptions for touchdowns -- by Jaylen Hill, Joel McCandless and Reggie Hall -- to beat Eastern Kentucky 24-7 in the Ohio Valley Conference;- No. 4 North Dakota State gained three turnovers in the games final eight minutes to preserve a 21-13 win at No. 12 Western Illinois in the Missouri Valley Football Conference. The Bison also blocked two field goals;- No. 7 South Dakota State corralled six sacks and turned two takeaways into touchdowns in a 24-10 win over No. 13 Youngstown State which gave the Jackrabbits sole possession of first place in the MVFC;- No. 9 Charleston Southern surrendered only 102 yards to Presbyterian in a 38-3 rout in the Big South Conference. It was the fewest the Buccaneers have allowed against an FCS opponent;- No. 16 Villanova totaled nine sacks and forced a pair of turnovers in a 24-13 CAA win over No. 23 Albany. Linebacker Ed Shockley had 3? sacks and a fumble recovery;- No. 17 Coastal Carolina beat Central Connecticut State 33-25 as linebacker Alex Scearce had three takeaways, scoring touchdowns on an interception and a fumble recovery;- No. 24 Stony Brook made it 10 straight quarters without allowing a touchdown while beating Delaware 28-3 in the CAA. Defensive end John Haggart dominated with 11 tackles, 5 1/2 tackles for loss and three sacks while forcing three fumbles and recovering one.The regular season is down to its final four weekends in most conferences (all but the two HBCUs, the MEAC and SWAC), and while teams usually just outpunch each other with offense, the ones that go far in the FCS playoffs (think North Dakota State) are adept at making game-turning plays on defense.---=SECOND AND 10=Ten more observations from the FCS weekend:1.) Any of the top four teams -- Sam Houston State, Jacksonville State, Eastern Washington and North Dakota State -- have legitimate claim to the nations No. 1 ranking despite Sam Houstons lopsided first-place vote total last week. Whats been most impressive about the Bearkats is what they are doing to opponents in the first half of games. They have outscored teams 122-24 in the first quarter and 227-51 by halftime. They were up 24-0 at the break in a 38-21 win at Nicholls on Saturday.2.) The team of the week is Northern Arizona, which defeated No. 10 Montana 45-34 for its third straight win. The Lumberjacks (4-4, 3-2 Big Sky) never trailed in the game and built a 45-20 lead through three quarters against a visiting Griz team that had scored a combined 135 points over their previous two games. Lefty NAU quarterback Blake Kemp threw four touchdowns in the first half.3.) The comeback of the day also came from a Big Sky team, Weber State, which scored 23 unanswered points in the fourth quarter to rally past Southern Utah, 37-36, and remain unbeaten in conference play. The Wildcats (5-2, 4-0) didnt lead until Jadrian Clark and Darryl Denby connected for a 60-yard touchdown pass with 31 seconds left and Taylor Hintze kicked the extra point. Coach Jay Hills squad knows what its like to be on the other end of a fourth-quarter rally, as they blew a 21-point lead in the final 10? minutes against South Dakota and lost 52-49 in two overtimes on Sept. 10.4.) Three-week layoffs didnt slow two ranked teams -- a good sign considering the odd midseason scenario. No. 9 Charleston Southern routed Presbyterian 38-3 as quarterbacks Steve Bucenell and Robert Mitchell had big games. No. 22 Grambling State hammered Mississippi Valley State 59-10 as DeVante Kincade threw four first-half touchdowns and Martez Carter totaled 189 all-purpose yards and scored twice.5.) Saint Francis is 3-0 in the Northeast Conference for the first time because of its defense. The Red Flash (5-3) have surrendered 10 or fewer points five times, including in each conference win. Jermaine Ponder and Jalen Wells had interceptions of Duquesne quarterback Dillon Buechel in Friday nights 14-10 win -- a rematch of last years regular-season-ending game that decided the NEC title. The Red Flash come right back next Saturday with a big matchup at Sacred Heart (6-1, 1-1).6.) Surprise, surprise, the Ivy League co-leaders are Harvard and Penn. OK, no surprise at all. At least one of them has won the title in nine straight seasons and all but two seasons since 2000. Penn will host this years showdown on Nov. 12.7.) While Murray States Connor Mitchell was the kicker of the weekend with six field goals in a 40-38 win at No. 15 Eastern Illinois, Columbia freshman Oren Milstein kicked three field goals in a 9-7 win over Dartmouth. Hes provided all the Lions points in both wins this season, also kicking five field goals in a 15-13 win over Wagner on Oct. 8.8.) The hottest wide receiver in the FCS is not Eastern Washingtons Cooper Kupp -- for a change. Karel Hamilton became Samfords all-time leader in receiving yards (3,166) with a 208-yard game against Western Carolina. Over the Southern Conferences team last three games, Hamilton has caught 35 passes for 539 yards and six touchdowns.9.) Opposing teams will have to think twice about scheduling Stetson for Homecoming. The Hatters have been the spoiler three times this season. Saturdays win was the most scintillating, 30-24 at Campbell in their first-ever overtime game. Star safety Donald Payne blocked a Camels field goal attempt in OT and followed Jed Boudreaux down the field after his teammate scooped up the ball and ran toward the far end zone. A pair of Camels jumped on Boudreauxs back inside the 5-yard line, so he lateraled the ball to Payne, who covered the final two yards for the winning score. Payne finished with 13 tackles, pushing his career total to 502.10.) Delawares struggles are a puzzle, but its certain coach K.C. Keeler should never have been fired after the 2012 season and Dave Brock wasnt the answer. The Blue Hens are 19-23 since the start of the 2013 season and their 28-3 loss to Stony Brook on Saturday (in interim coach Dennis Dottin-Carters first game) was their fifth straight, marking the longest losing streak since the 1939 team dropped seven in a row. The Blue Hens post is coveted, so the nationwide search needs to produce a coach who will get a quick turnaround.---=A LOOK AHEAD=Next Saturdays FCS schedule is full of important conference matchups, led by Montana at Eastern Washington and Weber State at North Dakota in the Big Sky, North Dakota State at Northern Iowa in the Missouri Valley, Eastern Illinois at Jacksonville State in the Ohio Valley, Saint Francis at Sacred Heart in the Northeast, Fordham at Lehigh in the Patriot League and San Diego at Marist in the Pioneer Football League. Also: Big South, Gardner-Webb at Liberty; CAA, Stony Brook at New Hampshire; Ivy, Harvard at Dartmouth; MEAC, South Carolina State at Hampton; Missouri Valley, South Dakota State at Illinois State and Western Illinois at South Dakota; NEC, Bryant at Duquesne; Southland, Central Arkansas at Southeastern Louisiana; and SWAC, Southern at Alcorn State and Prairie View A&M at Jackson State. The FCS win total against the FBS stands at 10 (tied for fourth-most in a single season) as Samford visits Mississippi State and Wagner goes to UMass. Pat LaFontaine Jersey . Despite the cost, effort and an improved steroid test, its possible that very few -- if any -- positives will be detected, Dr. Richard Budgett told The Associated Press in an interview. "We just dont know what the results from Torino will be," Budgett said. Matt Martin Jersey . LOUIS -- Lance Lynn was one of the more enthusiastic participants as the St. Focus on... History repeating itselfF1 needs a touch of deja vu this weekend. Last year, for a crazy weekend, logic was flipped on its head and Mercedes looked absolutely ordinary for reasons the world champions have never properly explained. Though Toto Wolff thinks the team has solved those issue, the team has also been careful to play down expectations. Nico Rosberg even went as far as to say Singapore should be considered a Red Bull track?this weekend. And maybe he had a point. For Red Bull, this race poses a perfect opportunity to capitalise. There has been a Red Bull driver on the podium every year since 2010, with Sebastian Vettel winning on three of those occasions (2011, 2012, 2013). Though Red Bulls prowess on the aerodynamic side is legendary there are other reasons the team excels here year on year. The teams ability to find the sweet spot on set-up is a large part of its success over the years. Good traction and stable braking are essential and, while Mercedes struggled to get the most out of the softest compound last year, Red Bull also seems to be better at pushing the tyres on the quicker end of Pirellis scale.During Red Bulls horrible 2015 campaign, one of the few glimmers of light was its strong performance in Singapore. Ricciardo narrowly missed out on pole and may well have taken the fight to Vettel out in front were it not for a fan running on the track at mid-distance, one which brought out the Safety Car and neutralised the race in Vettels favour. This year Red Bull has been notably stronger and has moved past Ferrari in the championship, suggesting it will be even stronger this time around.Monaco is a good case in point: Red Bull was a genuine challenger for Mercedes and Ricciardo claimed his maiden pole position. Victory would have been his, too, were it not for a botched Red Bull pit stop. Monaco has obvious parallels to Singapore and, unlike the calendars other street circuit, Baku, does not lean heavily on outright engine power. Singapore is perhaps the middle ground between Monaco and Baku, requiring a good compromise between good downforce and a good drag configuration -- in other words, being good in corners without compromising too much on top-line speed. It is a compromise Red Bull has excelled at finding at Marina Bay in the last six years.?Another part of this weekends narrative will be Ferrari, the team that won in 2015 in dominant circumstances, with Vettel rolling back the years for his third win of the campaign. This year promised so much for the Maranello outfit but it is still searching for its first win of 2016 -- Singapore might be its most realistic chance of ending that wait before the end of the season. However, unlike Red Bull, Ferrari appears to have taken a step backwards on the chassis side, with president Sergio Marchionne recently admitting the team had failed on the development of its 2016 car. That is supported by the fact it slipped behind Red Bull in the constructors championship before the summer break despite Ferraris engine providing a bigger power output than Renaults. In need of a winThis is Ferraris best chance to put something in the win column this season, and realistically could be its last. It was strong last year but will need to be wary of Mercedes, with the team ominously confident it has solved last years problems, and a Red Bull team which has traditionally excelled at Singapore. In need of pointsThis section hasnt changed much in recent races: Jolyon Palmer and Esteban Gutierrez are still yet to be confirmed to a seat next year and both have zeros next to their names. Points around the challenging Marina Bay street circuit would be a timely boost.BettingThe bookies are clearly not paying too much attention to last year, with Lewis Hamilton still favourite for victory at 7/2. However, for the first time this season, another driver has better odds than the second Mercedes driver, with Daniel Ricciardo backed at 11/4. Sebastian Vettel is 9/1 for a fifth winn at Marina Bay. Cal Clutterbuck Jersey. If you share Fernando Alonsos optimism about McLaren, there are odds of 10/11 for the Spaniard or teammate Jenson Button to make the top six.ESPN predictionA lot depends on whether Mercedes has solved last years problems, but were going out on a limb here and saying both are kept off the podium again this weekend. It might be out of hope more than genuine expectation, but we are calling a Daniel Ricciardo-Sebastian Vettel showdown like last year - only this time with the Australian coming out on top to avenge the Monaco victory he lost earlier this year.WeatherF1 weather service Ubimet warns of the presence of the SouthWest monsoon when assessing the weather for this weekend, though it looks unlikely this weather will hit in the evenings, when the majority of sessions take place. Ubimet also predicts the chances for dry weather conditions are rather high, though thundery showers early on Friday and Saturday could make the opening session of either day interesting from a strategy point of view.A lap with....Esteban GutierrezYou arrive into turns one, two and three and its basically a sequence of corners. Its a medium-speed corner entering into turn one, and at turn two its important to prepare the line for turn three. Turn three is more of a hairpin, so the exit is very important. You arrive down into turn five which then sends you onto a long straight which is flat out.You arrive into high braking which is around turn seven, fairly straight, 90-degree corner. You have the track closing in as the walls get very close. Its important to keep the car in good traction, not to overheat the rear tires a lot. Then you have three corners before the hairpin where it becomes pretty challenging. You cannot lose the line. Everything is about getting the right sequence. Exit of the hairpin you have a long straight and you go downhill into another 90-degree corner. Its pretty challenging because by this point the tires are getting a bit overheated. All the rest becomes sector three. You arrive into the first chicane and take all the curbs very aggressively, then you go left into the tunnel and into a very short chicane. On the last chicane, you use all the track on the outside, close to the wall. The last corner is a pretty fast corner. Its important to make it right and then get going into a straight line for start/finish line.TyresAvailable compounds: Soft, super-soft, ultra-softPaul Hembery, Pirelli motorsport director: Singapore is probably the most spectacular circuit that we visit all season, and this year we hope to make it even more special with the arrival of our rapid ultrasoft compound, in order to maximise the speed and grip available at the Marina Bay track. This is one of the most unpredictable races of the year - its the only track with a 100% safety car record - so all the complex variables inevitably throw up opportunities for teams to do something creative with strategy. In terms of competition, it looks set to be one of the closest races we will see all year, where tyre management will make a big difference.Tyre facts:? Singapore has the highest number of corners of any circuit all year (23) but is the second-slowest lap after Monaco: placing demands on tyres in terms of cornering, braking and traction.? The surface is typically bumpy, also with street furniture such as painted lines and manholes.? Being run at night, track temperatures dont evolve in the usual way seen at a daytime race.? Ambient temperatures still remain high though, meaning drivers have to manage degradation.? A long race and high safety car probability open up many different tyre strategy opportunities.?Low downforce means all the mechanical grip comes from tyres: the left-rear works hardest.? Pit stop time is long due to a lower speed limit and long pit lane: a key strategic consideration.
