The Chicago Blackhawks locked up a couple of pieces on Friday, reportedly re-signing restricted free agents Jeremy Morin, Ben Smith and Antti Raanta. All three will be returning to the Hawks on two-year deals. Smith scored 14 goals and added 12 assists in 75 regular-season games with the Blackhawks in 2013-14. His deal is worth an average annual value of $1.5 million. Originally selected in the sixth round (169th overall) at the 2008 NHL Entry Draft, Smith has scored 18 goals and 12 assists in 95 career games with Chicago. Raanta posted a 13-5-4 record with a 2.71 goals-against average and a .897 save percentage in 25 appearances with the Hawks in 2013-14 including a short run as the teams starter when Corey Crawford went down with a lower body injury. Originally signed as a free agent by the Blackhawks in 2013, Raanta just completed his rookie season with Chicago. Raantas deal is worth an average annual value of $750,000. Morin, 23, scored five goals and added six assists in 24 games with the Blackhawks in 2013-14. Originally selected by the Atlanta Thrashers in the second round (45th overall) of the 2009 NHL Entry Draft, Morin was acquired by the Blackhawks as part of the trade that sent Dustin Byfuglien to the then-Thrashers. Im really disappointed in being called a thug." While theres been criticism for his rant, hes also received support. Perhaps most surprising was a tweet from baseball Hall of Famer Hank Aaron. Not a huge user of social media — Aaron had sent seven tweets before Tuesday — his message to Sherman read, "hang in there & keep playing as well as you did Sunday. Excellent job - you have my support." Sherman was peppered with questions for more than 20 minutes Wednesday. Teammate Russell Wilson was also asked about the fallout. He said it hasnt been a distraction as the Seahawks begin preparing for Denver. Sherman also didnt like hearing that some have labeled the team villainous. "Anytime you label Russell Wilson a villain it has to be a joke," he said. Sherman said he has not reached out to Crabtree. Sherman attempted to shake Crabtrees hand following the interception only to get shoved in the face. Even after his on-field interview, Sherman continued to deride Crabtree in his postgame media session, calling the receiver "mediocre" and later saying their problems dated to an incident during an off-season event in Arizona. Sherman said he doesnt regret the choke sign he directed at San Francisco quarterback Colin Kaepernick, a gesture that drew a 15-yard penalty for unsportsmanlike conduct.
